To calculate your FUTO Post-UTME screening score, you need to have your SSCE result and must have checked your JAMB UTME score.
Armed with these two requirements, let’s proceed to learn how to calculate the FUTO Post-UTME screening score.
Steps for Calculating FUTO Post-UTME Aggregate Score
Step 1: Check the JAMB Subject Combination for your Course
Before you start the permutations and combinations, it is necessary to you know the JAMB subject combination required to study the course you will be applying for at FUTO.
FUTO uses the subjects you took in JAMB to calculate your O-level grades.
If you have already completed the JAMB UTME exam while reading this, you can skip this step.
Step 2: Know the Marks for Each SSCE Grade
FUTO’s mark per SSCE grades is a bit different from other tertiary institutions in Nigeria; therefore, you need to know these marks before calculating your O-level grades.
Below is a list of marks for each SSCE (WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB) grade.
A1 = 10 marks
B2 = 9 marks
B3 = 8 marks
C4 = 7 marks
C5 = 6 marks
C6 = 5 marks
D7 = 0 marks
E8 = 0 mark
F9 = 0 mark
For NABTEB results, use the marks below;
A1 = 10 marks
A2 = 9 marks
A3 = 8 marks
C4 = 7 marks
C5 = 6 marks
C6 = 5 marks
P7 = 0 marks
P8 = 0 mark
F9 = 0 mark
Step 3: Calculate your O-level Grades
The next step is to calculate the grades in your SSCE result using the marks in step 2.
Note that you only need to calculate for the exact four JAMB UTME subjects relevant to the course you are applying for at FUTO.
For example, if you took or will be taking English, Chemistry, Biology, and Geography in the JAMB UTME exam, then these are the only subjects you need to calculate for.
Write down the grades you had in the four subjects and add the equivalent marks together. Take note of the total mark as you will need it later.
Step 4: Calculate your JAMB Grades
Divide your JAMB score by 400 and multiply by 60.
(JAMB score ÷ 400) x 60
Write down the score.
Step 5: Add up the total
Now add the aggregate from your O-level and the aggregate from your JAMB UTME. Your final answer is your FUTO Post-UTME aggregate score.
Here is an illustration to help you understand better;
Ikenna wants to study Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri,
He scored 219 in the JAMB UTME exam and had the following grades in his O-level results;
Mathematics: B3
English Language: A1
Physics: B2
Chemistry: C4
Biology: A1
Geography: B2
Economics: C5
Computer Studies: A1
Igbo Language: B3
Since the subjects he took in JAMB are English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, he will calculate his O-level result as;
Mathematics B3 = 8 marks
English Language A1 = 10 marks
Physics B2 = 9 marks
Chemistry C4 = 7 marks
Total O-level marks = 34 marks
Then his JAMB score will be calculated as (219 divided by 400) X 60.
Total JAMB score = 32.85
FUTO Post-UTME screening aggregate for Ikenna will be;
34 + 32.85 = 66.85
