Who should sit for the WAEC GCE Exam?

The WASSCE private examination, popularly known as the WAEC GCE Exam, was initially intended for candidates who were homeschooled or did not attend conventional secondary schools. However, students who attempted the WASSCE for secondary schools and had lapses in certain subjects often sit for this examination to remedy their deficiencies and obtain the necessary credits for tertiary institution admission.

Also, as more schools are shifting from conducting Post-UTME exams to relying on grading systems that combine O-level grades and JAMB UTME scores, having a good O-Level grade improves your chances of getting admission. If you have C’s in the relevant subjects required for the course you want to study, attempting the WAEC GCE exam gives you another opportunity to improve your grades.

How to Register for the WAEC GCE Exam

Choose your subjects wisely

Before proceeding with the WAEC GCE registration process, you should choose the subjects you will attempt in the exam.

The subjects you choose should be related to the subjects you studied in secondary school or private lessons and should also align with the course you intend to study at a tertiary institution. Choosing the right combination of subjects increases your chances of meeting admission requirements and performing well in the examination.

The minimum number of subjects you can choose is seven.

If you don’t know the location of the school you were assigned to for the exam, try to locate the school before the exam commences. You do not want to get lost on exam day.
